Non-surgical vein removal treatments

Remove or improve the look and symptoms of your red veins, broken capillaries, spider veins or varicose veins

We offer you many treatments:

Red veins & broken capillaries, also known as Telangiectasia, are found mostly on the face and legs. They can also be found on other areas of the body. They are relatively easy to remove with IPL/laser or Sterex equipment. We’ll invite you in for a consultation and then follow with treatment. Often one treatment will be enough but sometimes multiple treatments are needed.

Varicose veins are twisted, dark blue, visibly enlarged veins that protrude above the surface of the skin. Typically they are found on the legs and can be painful and even cause swelling. In the long run, Varicose veins can to lead to skin discoloration and ulcerations. We use 2 methods to get rid of varicose veins. EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) or an alternative stripping method. This will be decided by our vascular surgeon at your consultation.

Spider veins (also known as thread veins) are small but colourful veins that appear on the legs or face. They look like a spider web and may appear red, purple, or blue. Sclerotherapy is when a solutions is injected into the vein causing it to shrivel and be re-absorbed by the body. This is often the best method of treatment. One or multiple treatments may be necessary. Treatment is carried out by either our Nurse Practitioner (Maria Cork who has 30 years experience), or our Vascular Surgeon (Simon Payne who has over 35 years experience).

Whether they are Spider, Thread or Varicose veins, Rosacea or Campbell de Morgan spots, we have many treatments to help improve the visual appearance & discomfort these complaints often bring.

Which is the best treatment for varicose vein?

We have state-of-the-art technology and treatments for Varicose veins. Our Vascular Surgeon and Specialists will help you to choose the therapy that is best for you. A consultation provides you with information and answers to your questions. As well as what you are likely to expect as a result of treatment.

Our non-surgical vein treatments include:

  • IPL or Sterex for thread veins from £99. These veins are very small and these treatments are perfect as they cauterise the tiny vessels.
  • Foaming or Sclerotherapy for spider veins. This is where a solution is injected into the vein to cause shrinkage and the veins are subsequently reabsorbed by the body. Your consultation with the sclerotherapy consultant is £50, followed by £275 for the therapy, unless you want treatment with our surgeon who charges £325.
  • A full ultrasound consultation with our surgeon is £350.
  • EVLA for Varicose Veins – A consultation with full ultra sound is essential as the first step, £350, followed by treatment for 1 leg, £2,489 for both legs £3689.
  • Alternatives to varicose vein removal are available with our surgeon and start at £1600. You will be advised and can discuss the best method during the consultation.
  • All options have a very short recovery time and are suitable for abnormal or uncomfortable veins on the face, cheeks, chest, legs and elsewhere on the body.

Deciding on varicose vein treatment

Managing and removing these visible veins is one of our most popular treatments and is carried out by our Vascular Surgeon. Depending on the severity, type of veins on show and whether you need to avoid downtime, will determine the procedure that we will recommend.

Following your consultation and ultrasound scan, the Doctor may recommend EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) which uses laser treatment to safely remove the affected veins.

Vein stripping is where the damaged vein is removed completely with several small cuts or an incision. Stripping is performed less often than EVLA although it used to be the most common method of removal. Since EVLA is highly effective and less invasive, it’s now more suitable & less invasive for most patients meaning the healing time and back to work recovery period is much less.

Alternatively, if the veins are not deemed to be “Varicose” requiring removal, the surgeon may suggest Foam Sclerotherapy. This procedure uses a number of small injections into the vein with an irritant solution using a very fine needle. The solution causes the vein to shrivel and it is then reabsorbed by the body.

When should varicose veins be removed?

If you are feeling discomfort, pain, swelling or itching continuously, it is time to see a consultant. You may have tried self care options: wearing compression stockings, elevating your legs for long periods when sitting or laying, or even upping the exercise. Our Minor Surgical Vein Removal treatments or Surgical Stripping will be treated properly. We will alleviate any further discomfort, and potentially more threatening symptoms, as well as majorly improving the appearance.

Why we get visible leg veins

Leg veins can start to show as we get older. This can be due to genetics, weight, lifestyle, even prolonged sitting or standing. With varicose veins and spider veins, small one-way valves in the veins become weaker. Blood flow can start to go backwards or accumulate in the vein, which causes them to enlarge.

You will get all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Vein Treatment FAQS

Recovery Time

The downtime on all our treatments for veins is minimal. Following your treatment, which can last around an hour, you will be able to go home the same day. For less invasive treatments you can drive. Driving is not recommended if you’ve had varicose vein treatment as you will have a local anaesthetic.

Return to work after Treatment

For red vein, spider vein or capillary removal & treatment, you can return to work immediately.

Usually, after varicose vein removal you will be able to return to work the next day. We recommend staying mobile after your procedure (as long as you’re not on your feet all day). Walking daily will ensure you don’t become stiff and reduces swelling and bruising.

Side Effects

Side effects depends on which treatment you’ve had. With capillary removal you will have minimal downtime and may be some very small blood spots as big as a needle head. These will last a few days and then flake off. With spider vein and varicsoe vein treatment will leave you feeling a little bruised and there may be initially some swelling and redness. You will also be asked to wear stockings after treatment.

After care treatment of varicose veins

Your consultant will talk you through the importance of aftercare and you’ll receive a pre & post care leaflet. We want to ensure the circulation of blood is healthy and that your body naturally processes the procedure. At home, you will need to wear compression stockings for up to 2 weeks. Elevate your treatment area when possible. Potter about or take short walks with rest. We provide you with all pre and post care advice.

The local anaesthetic will wear off after several hours and you are advised to be mobile (but not necessarily stand for long periods) during the first 2 weeks.

After the initial local anaesthetic is injected you will not feel a thing during the procedure!

    Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to remove large unsightly varicose veins or smaller spider veins. The technique involves a number of small injections using a very fine needle. A sclerosing solution (Sclerovein*) is injected into the veins causing the natural non-stick lining to collapse and preventing blood flow through the vein. Blood is then directed back to the deeper venous system. Foam Sclerotherapy is a similar technique, with the main difference being the consistency of the solution used.

    IPL & Laser Vein Removal

For smaller veins around the face & body, success can be achieved with laser or IPL light. The light is applied to the skin in very short and intense bursts. This light energy is absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood which subsequently turns to heat energy causing the vessels to collapse and fade or disappear.

It's a surprisingly quick & simple treatment and can be undertaken during a lunch break with no downtime required.

Various vascular conditions can be treated including facial spider veins/thread veins, rosacea, Campbell de Morgan as well as veins on legs & other areas.
