It is thought that almost 80% of teenagers suffer with Acne and we assume it’s just under 19’s who get this debilitating condition, but the truth is adults can also suffer.  So, what acne treatments are available?

Last year a study carried out at 92 private dermatology clinics found a 200 per cent rise in the number of adults seeking specialist acne treatment. With a quarter of those visiting being women with adult acne.

The reason for women having acne tends to be triggered by hormones – Periods, Pregnancy and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Having said that, men also suffer hugely too.

We often think about the acne itself but actually most of our patients are concerned about what is left behind. Later on in this article we will explain what we can do to treat scarring and pigmentation.

So what is Acne? We asked Dr Vincent to explain:

Acne is caused when the hair follicle, becomes blocked. When you look at the cross section of the skin you will find that the sebaceous glands which are small glands attached to the follicle can become inflamed, with that and the blocked follicle you will notice angry, red looking spots on the surface of the skin. Not everyone will suffer with this though, not all spots will be angry looking.

Laser/IPL

Laser or IPL can be a real bonus for most acne sufferers. It is the most effective way to reduce inflammation, so combing this with our Skin Peel is the perfect protocol for most patients who come into us.

Medical Skincare

We currently have over 150 patients using our range of prescriptive skincare for acne, acne scarring, photo-ageing/sun damage with impressive results on its own. Combing the medical grade skincare named Obagi Medical with treatments will see further improvement. Prices start from £38, so will not break the bank, this is a great start to achieving your goal.

Treatments for scarring:

Dermal rolling

Dermal Rolling or micro needling as some call it, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury, in turn renewing the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect, in turn improving any scarring the acne has left behind.

Skin Peels

We offer a selection of peels from mild to moderate, offering light to deep level of peeling. Peels will chemically exfoliate the top layers of skin. This exfoliation signals the cells inside the skin to produce more rapidly in turn will lessen the appearance of scarring.
