Cysts are commonly found on the face, neck, body and sometimes around the genitals. A skin cyst is a bump which is just underneath the surface of the skin which is carrying fluid. It’s normally white or yellow and you may be able to see a centre from which you could squeeze out the fluid. They’re not normally painful but can be tender or sore if they become infected.

Some cysts run in families such as pilar cysts and others simply form around hair follicles. If you have a cyst on your eyelid then this is known as a chalazion or Meibomian cyst which has formed due to the glands in the eyelids becoming blocked.

REMOVAL OF A CYST

Any cyst removal requires the skill of our surgeons and doctor to avoid complication and give an aesthetically pleasing result. Patients will be given an anaesthetic to numb the skin. A tiny cut is made in the skin and the cyst is squeezed out. We don’t usually send cysts to histology unless we feel there may be suspicious & unusual signs.
